AMX Mod X

Official DoD Community for Development of Amxmodx Plugins Oct 09, 2004 16:16
I am proud to announce the Grand Opening of the DoD Plugins Community. This community is dedicated to creating Real Working plugins for admins and fun seekers alike. It will allow users to interact directly and quickly with the developers of DoD Plugins, thus allowing the Developers to quickly fix bugs and get Quality DoD Plugins out to the Community. At the moment we have only a few developers and testers but we are always interested in new blood. I also hope to see other Communities start up to help in the development of Mod Specific plugins. So without further aido, here is the link:

So please come join us, as a Community we can make DoD Better for All!
Cheers!

New Project - SourceMod Oct 07, 2004 17:27
Now that Half-Life 2 is buyable, it's time to announce a new project.

I am proud to introduce SourceMod, the next generation Administration, Scripting, and Modding package for Half-Life 2 and its Source engine!

SourceMod is a rewrite of AMX Mod X, from the ground up, on a platform and scripting engine independent backend. SourceMod will take the customization abilities of AMX Mod X to a whole new level, offering an internal engine that is totally moddable itself.

You can visit the SourceMod project at www.sourcemod.net, visit the forums at www.sourcemod.net/forums, or see the initial development team at the credits page. Please ask questions on the SourceMod site or in this thread.

If you would like to join the team, PM BAILOPAN on the SourceMod forums with your credentials and desired position. Thanks for sticking with us!

NOTE: AMX Mod X is not dead now, and there will be a new release shortly. Bug fixing will continue.

Counter-Strike: Source Sep 30, 2004 12:44
This news post is about the upcoming release of Counter-Strike:Source being reported by the plethora of ever increasing HL news sites. I've decided to make an announcement that will save EVERYONE the trouble of asking this question over and over.

AMX Mod X is not, and will not, be Half-Life 2 compatible. It will not be CS:S compatible. This also goes for AMX Mod, Admin-Mod, and Metamod. Don't even try it, it won't work. And until the HL2SDK is released, no modding will be possible.

Admin-Mod has already made an announcement about this. They don't have definitive plans for a full HL2 port. AMX Mod's status is unknown. Will Day has expressed interest in writing a Metamod for HL2 if Valve doesn't make their own, but this was back when Will Day had time to maintain Metamod - and everything depends on Metamod.

What are AMX Mod X's plans? Currently, there are no plans to port AMX Mod X to Half-Life 2. The reason is that AMX Mod X, undeniably, is still built on the shaky code base of AMX Mod, and there's no reason to waste large amounts of time continually reworking it. It has to be rewritten, from the ground up.

So, there is a new project for AMX Mod X : Half-Life 2. It is not called AMX Mod X, and it is not based on AMX Mod. This project will be announced when Half-Life 2 is released. Until then, I hope this answers the Source related questions.

If you have any questions regarding this, post them here.

AMX Mod X 0.20-RC6 Released Sep 20, 2004 02:12
Release Candidate 6 of AMX Mod X 0.20 is now available. You can get the new binaries from SourceForge.

Update to 0.20 Guide

This is a bug fix release with one major feature change.
Plugins running in debug mode now appear so in "amxx plugins". Furthermore, plugins in debug mode now have a special "stack tracing" feature. When a run time error occurs, detailed tracking information is now available. Example:

L 09/15/2004 - 17:38:17: [AMXX] Run time error 4 (index out of bounds) on line 46 (file "debug.sma").
L 09/15/2004 - 17:38:17: [AMXX] Debug Trace =>
L 09/15/2004 - 17:38:17: [AMXX] [0] Line 40, File "debug.sma"
L 09/15/2004 - 17:38:17: [AMXX] [1] Line 25, File "debug.sma"

Abridged Changelog:

Added AMD64 support for Cstrike module.
Added TraceResult and TraceLine manipulation to fakemeta_amxx.
Added new API calls for module SDK.
Added new debug trace system to JIT and C core.
Added universal error handling API to Core (modules not yet implemented).
Removed extraneous packages from DoD, TFC, and TS packages.
Fixed a bug in get_user_astats for CSSTATS.
Fixed remaining bugs in remove_task().
Fixed bug where reloadadmins would not reset flasg (mrhunt).
Fixed bug where amxxsc failed on -o.
Fixed logging typo in core.ini.
Fixed wrong kills and deaths in CSSTATS.
Fixed string formatting in mapsmenu, admincmd.
Fixed restmenu run time error.
Fixed adminslots not calculating slots immediately.
Fixed crash bug in amx_modules.
Fixed parsing bug in string trim routine.
Fixed bug where language files were not closed.
Compiler is now set to debug level 2 and compaction is disabled.

Web Compiler - 0.20 Live Sep 13, 2004 10:01
The online compiler for both plugins and the main page can now compile 0.20 plugins as well as 0.16.

This should encourage people to start posting 0.20 compatible plugins and to write code that works with the rather picky 2.5.1 version of Small.

If a plugin compiles on 0.20 and not 0.16 - it's not broken! It probably only works on 0.20. So don't downvote things because you aren't up to date.

Enjoy!

Also note two things:
1. The next nightly build cycle will have a fixed amxxsc
2. The cause of many 0.20-2.5.1 crashes of the compiler was found - variable names that are too long (20+ characters).
