AMX Mod X

Release Fixes - 0.20-TP3 Aug 24, 2004 01:55
As many of you may have noted, there were many problems with yesterday's release. I have released AMX Mod X 0.20-TP3 to address some of these problems.

This release fixes a number of crash bugs and, most importantly, the .amxx file format was changed for hopefully the last time. This means you will need to recompile all .amxx plugins to the new .amxx file format. I realize this is an inconvenience, but it had to be done, and I made sure to do it as early as possible. Sorry! (Plugins in these packages are already compiled for you).

(Sorry - package download order came out weird. Note - no configs have changed. Yes, .amx plugins still load).

Changelog:

Changed .amxx plugin format - changed compression from LZO to GZ
-Note on the above - old .amxx files will not work, recompile with the new compiler.
-The compression will be 30-80% better, but that's not the reason for the switch (which was licensing issues)
Fixed include files to be more backwards compatible
Fixed bad compiling options in both AMD64 and Linux compiles (stdc++ dependencies)
-This also fixes a crash bug in the cstrike package and load errors
Fixed a very ubiquitous crash bug in MySQL
Fixed a crash bug in Core when resolving certain strings
Increased compiler line buffer

Addendum: Redownload Linux Base package if you use Mysql and got them before this notice. The wrong mysql_amxx_i386.so was included.

Releases! Aug 22, 2004 17:42
Today is a cool day because three mods are updating.

I am proud to announce the immediate availability of Metamod 1.17.2 and a preview release of AMX Mod X 0.20.

Now, for a word on the new AMX Mod X. This is a "Technology Preview". In other words, it's a pre-release. It's not the official release. It's for some people to play with, and some developers to toy with. It's not recommended that the whole population switch over as we still have a number of things to do:

- Finish documentation
- Finalize mod packages
- Translate mod packages
- Verify some new modules are fully functional
- Convert the webserver to the new compiler
- Stablize everything

However, because the public has been _dying_ for a new release, we've decided to release these editions. This release is so big, this news post is split into two sections. The first section is a quick tutorial on how to upgrade, since we haven't put the documentation into a nice little package yet. The second section is the very, very long changelog.

You can get the new Metamod binaries here: Click Here.

For the lazy among us, here is a VERY brief rundown of the big changes:

- New module API
- AMD64 Compatibility
- New packaging system
- Largely rewritten core
- New multi-lingual system
- Engine, mysql, csstats, rewritten from scratch
- Vastly superior mod support
- Many new modules
- Better SQL support
- JIT increases speed dramatically
- Lowered CPU usage
- New plugin file format (.amxx)
- New compiler (amxxsc)
- Assembler (sasm)

One of the philosophies behind AMXx is "Developers, developers, developers!". AMX Mod X offers an excellent scripting and mod design API unlike any of its predecessors. As well as being a decent administrative tool, we hope AMX Mod X will continue to give people awesome powers over their servers :)

We'd also like to give a round of applause to our good friends at Admin-Mod who have also made a milestone release today, for they have also succeded in making the AMX Core 64bit compatible!

Last, but not least, thanks to all the people who put blood and sweat in to make this release possible. As you can see, this was not a trivial update. Special thanks to our dilligent bug reporters, beta testers, supporters, and mahnsawce, for daring to take on fakemeta_amxx.

Yup, it's a... release change! Aug 13, 2004 20:21
The schedule for 0.20 has been messed up a bit (again) due to last minute features and developers going on vacation, so we're changing release policies for now and the future.

While AMXx 0.20 is complete, it hasn't been tested to the extent we'd like. So we've decided to start releasing the RCs (release candidates) to the public. These betas will be "development" editions and aren't recommended for average use (so they will not be supported) - however it is a great way for us to get feedback from people who have the time to test them out, and it also gives developers a huge help in preparation.

We'll start by putting out 0.20-RC2 either tomorrow or a few days after. Depending on the reports we get back, we'll release 0.20-Final in a week or two (IRC stuff will occur then).

Sorry for this, but a strict release cycle is too much stress for an Open Source project. I hope you can all understand, and the die-hard people that were refreshing for 0.20 will have it in their hands soon enough to try out.

--------------------
New features we've added since the original release announcement:
  • Fakemeta Module has been greatly extended and can hook/forward almost any Half-Life engine function
  • Extended/revamped portions of the Multi-Lingual system (better formatting allows for things like "%d %L %08s")
  • Optimized Engine for speed and certain portions of Core
  • You can now write plugins in a new language, Small-Assembly (hardcore scripting :) )
  • Translated Plugins into over 10 languages!

Delayed Release Aug 05, 2004 07:19
I'm sorry but I have bad news for you.
AMX Mod X 0.2 will be released 1 week later (on August 14th). But there will be still an IRC Release Party.
Adding so much new features takes some time and we don't want to release an untested version.

Thanks for understanding,
SniperBeamer
