| AMX Mod X 1.50 Released! |
Aug 02, 2005 22:19 |
I am proud to announce that I have released AMX Mod X 1.50 Beta. This is a very large release, which noticeably decreases CPU and memory usage, adds greater functionality, and adds a few new goodies for people to play with, such as a brand new installer. The notes that follow are important.
You can get the binaries at SourceForge or the Downloads Page. The improved installer will also install the new official AMX Mod X Editor.
The full changelog is too long to post, so click here to get it.
- AMX Mod X now requires Metamod-p24 or Metamod 1.18. Metamod 1.18 will not be released for a few more days. We have bundled Metamod-p24 with the installer and you can download it here: metamod-p.sf.net.
- The version of Small has been upgraded to 3.0, and the name was changed to "Pawn" by ITB CompuPhase. The web compiler for Pawn will go live once 1.50 is deemed to be stable.
- Old modules will not run - the API had to be changed for Small 3.0.
- The .amxx plugin format was changed. Old plugins will still work, except in debug mode. However once the web compiler goes live, the 1.50 plugins will not run on earlier versions of AMX Mod X.
- A few features were deprecated. If you were using them, post in the scripting forum.
Again, this is a beta release, so please post in bug reports so we can make patch it up if need be. This release would not have been possible without the hard work of the following people:
Basic-Master: Newest AMX Mod X developer
twistedeuphoria: Moderator, beta testing CVS
faluco: Translator, making sure CVS was sane
theqizmo (u), fysh: Debugging CVS and memory leaks
Lynx: The new, function-packed ESF module
As always, thanks for your continued support!
Short changelog (actual one is ~50 lines long)
- Removed the internal metamod in AMX Mod X (CPU hog)
- Upgraded to Small 3.0 (Pawn)
- Deprecated require_module for an automatic required module detection system
- Fixed many serious memory leaks
- Added register_native, plugins can now make their own natives
- New MySQL, ESF, TSFun, and nVault modules
- New multi-page menu generating system
- New installer, and official Editor
- Improved plugin debugger (this changed .amxx file format)

| New Forum Features |
Jul 15, 2005 02:33 |
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! I've recoded some ancient stuff in the forums for everyone to play with.
Plugin Posting - By popular demand, there are now two forums for plugins - Unapproved and Approved. Rather than trash plugins or search for ones that need to be approved, this makes it much easier for moderators and plugin developers. The forums are called "New Submissions" and "Approved Plugins" (you may only post new plugins to the former).
Plugin Ratings - The old complicated rating formula has been ditched. Now, every vote counts as simply one vote (your rating is the total score divided by the number of ratings). You can only rate approved plugins now, as each rating affects your karma.
Karma - Karma is no longer a few meaningless blue blocks! It's a volatile number affected by your peers, enemies, and the quality of the plugins you post. Everyone's initial karma count was determined by the ratings of the approved plugins they had posted. You can see your karma in your profile or on posts. The + means "add karma" and the - means "subtract karma", and you can give or take karma to a certain number of people per day.
Read on for more information about karma and update news!
The exact karma rules are as follows:
Every day (24 hours) you can affect five people. Of those five people, you can only affect the same person three times. The first time you affect a person, it's for free. However, if you affect them again within a 24-hour period, you lose karma points - 1 if you give them karma, 2 if you subtract. This is to prevent people from going on vengeful karma-burning sprees.
If you have less than -10 karma, you cannot affect anyone else's karma negatively. If you have less than -15 karma, you cannot affect anyone else's karma at all. If you have less than -20, you are automatically assigned the rank of "Troll" (which will be removed once you get back above -20). Furthermore, you cannot post plugins. There is no limit to how negative or positive you can get.
For every rating on an approved plugin that you've posted, you can lose or gain karma. A rating of 3 or greater is +1, a rating of 1 is -1. A positive modifier (like Useful) is also +1, while a negative modifier like Redundant is -1.
The karma system is meant to be a way to reward people who make insightful posts and detract people from posting nonsense or annoying things. Use it as a reward system for people who do well :]
What's the next update?
Upcoming things for AMX Mod X -
More forum revampments, new web compiler, more karma features for moderators, benefits for people with high karma, and a forum contest (more details to follow).
After that, I am hoping to release Metamod 1.18 and AMX Mod X 1.1-RC1 within the next week or so. This update will be an action-packed release with all sorts of new goodies, including an official AMX Mod X editor, a brand new installer, and an AMX Mod X core that is lighter on CPU usage.
Thanks for your support, and enjoy!
(Thanks to twistedeuphoria for helping beta testing the new stuff) |

| New Ownership (April Fool's Joke) |
Apr 01, 2005 06:35 |
Due to the lack of activity the ownership of the AMX Mod X project has changed. I'm the new project leader.
As a result of this some important things will change:
- First of all the old team will no longer work on AMX Mod X because they don't have enough free time
- New developers are Bolek (yes it's him!!!111oneone), gaben and me
- The next version will be called "AMX Mod X II SUPER SIZE"
- It will be released in one or two weeks
- New features are improved stability, new easter eggs and an interweb module
- Also the new version will contain a bunch of new default plugins: better stats, actually working reserved slots, improved version of PTB and ATAC, Lord of the Rings Plugins (WC3-Style) and OLOtalk
- Now we are using Small 3.0 (we got the exclusive permission from the author Thiadmer to use it). This new version supports real strings and has a non-sucking compiler (yes it is true!)
- All the commands will be renamed from "amx_" to "richard_nixon_"
- From now on AMX Mod X will be closed-source
- The full version will cost $25
- There will be a trial version which is feature reduced and will only work for 1337 seconds
- The default version will display 2 ad banners in-game
- An extra payment of $50 will remove them
Additionally I have to announce that on the forums we will replace the words "yams" and "turtle" with "tomatoes" and "reindeer".
Here are the new pictures:

| Small Update Release + Downtime |
Mar 12, 2005 23:51 |
We've released a quick patch to the core DLL (amxmodx_mm). This fixes a problem where running Metamod-p could cause AMX Mod X to crash when using modules. If you're not running Metamod-p, there is no reason to get these updates.
For more information about the problem, click here, or to get the downloads, visit the downloads page and update your base package, or download the binaries attached to this post. Thanks to evilspy for quickly diagnosing and fixing the problem.
Lastly, you may have noticed a bit of downtime today. I apologize for this, I was applying some patches and accidentally damaged some packages. It's all set now. |

| AMX Mod X 1.01 Released |
Mar 09, 2005 20:48 |
I'm pleased to announce the first touch-up release of AMX Mod X since our big day back in November. We've cleaned up a few things, but for the most part it's not vitally necessary that you upgrade.
You can get the new files by going to our Downloads Page, http://www.amxmodx.org/downloads.php
(Update: If you found CSX was replaced with CSSTATS, redownload the package again, it was an error)
The big notable changes: We've split the SQL/DBI modules off into a separate package called "SQL Modules". MySQL up to 4.0 support is still included in the default install, but for 4.1 support or MS/PG/SQLite support, you will need to download the SQL Modules package.
Also, CheesyPeteza has updated the NS module to 3.0, and evilspy has helped us optimize AMX Mod X for use with metamod-p. This begins our official "supporting" of AMX Mod X running on Metamod-p, starting with version 20. The base packages still come with Metamod from Will Day.
Lastly, the problem of AMX Mod X crashing on pingboost was not officially resolved. It only seemed to occur on later versions of the official Metamod with pingboost levels 1 or 2. We couldn't pinpoint the problem in time, but for now, try Metamod-P or pingboost level 3 (or none at all).
The official changelog:
AMX Mod X 1.01 (March 09, 2005)- Updated NS module for Natural Selection 3.0.
